About Us
The Department of Medical Examiner is an independent investigative agency that conducts more than 13,000 medicolegal death investigations annually. These cases include suspected homicides, suicides, accidental deaths, and certain natural deaths requiring medical examiner review to establish the cause and manner of death.
Led by a physician certified in forensic pathology, the department uses advanced forensic science to conduct independent, objective, and compassionate investigations. Its mission is to support families and communities, protect public health and safety, and collaborate with others to reduce preventable deaths.
