With more than 36,000 dedicated public servants, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is committed to protecting public safety, promoting positive behavioral change among offenders, supporting successful reintegration into society, and assisting victims of crime.
As the largest state agency in Texas, TDCJ manages more than 146,000 offenders housed in state prisons and private correctional facilities operating under contract with the agency. TDCJ also provides funding and oversight for community supervision programs and is responsible for supervising individuals released from prison through parole or mandatory supervision.
Through these efforts, TDCJ works to uphold public safety while supporting rehabilitation, accountability, and successful reentry into communities across Texas.
